The 24th Summer Universiade, which was held in Bangkok, Thailand from August 8 to 18, 2007, ended today with a Closing Ceremony.

Over 9,000 people, with over 6,093 athletes coming from 151 countries participated at the event, which means that the previous records have been broken. Student athletes competed in 15 sports: Athletics, Aquatic Sports (Swimming, Diving, Water Polo), Badminton, Basketball, Fencing, Football, Golf, Gymnastics (Artistic Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics), Judo, Shooting (Rifle and Pistol, Shotgun), Softball, Taekwndo, Table Tennis, Tennis, and Volleyball.

Many sports records were broken, and the organisers were able to confirm the proverbial Thai kindness, friendliness and generousity. The games were also marked by the 80th anniversary of the Thai King, Bumibol Adulyadej, who also sponsored the games.
